The veining in marble tiles can be more or less pronounced on various pieces; even the gloss level can vary slightly, from piece to piece.

Variation

All natural stone products have a natural shade/design variation from piece to piece, and even within a single piece.  No two pieces are alike.  For this reason, you must be prepared to see
  • various colour blotches
  • veining
  • pitting
  • height differences
  • clipped corners, broken corners
  • fissures
  • gloss/sheen variation from tile to tile
  • gloss/sheen variation within each tile

If the look you are going for is that of uniformity this is not the product for you.  Natural stone products may not be returned on the basis of variation.

If you want a bit of control over your outcome you can do a few things to compensate:
  • Lay out the tiles in an arrangement you would like the installer to follow
  • Purchase extra tiles on your contract, so that some tiles may be discarded if undesirable
  • Make an appointment to choose your particular countertop slab at the quarry

Tile Arrangement

Peel Tile delivers all stone tiles a few days prior to your install date for the very reason mentioned above – so that you may go through them and choose tiles you may and may not like for certain areas.

If you are quite selective, lay the tiles out in your garage in the exact order you would like to see them and our installer will gladly move them inside, retaining the pattern you have chosen.  Sometimes customers like to do this so that certain areas consist of darker tiles, and certain areas, lighter ones.  Sometimes, customers like the tiles properly mixed so the patterning is more random.  Sometimes, heavily veined tiles are preferable in the closet or other hidden areas.  It is your responsibility to get the most out of your stone installation.

If you are not that selective, at least go through the boxes to see if there any tiles you definitely do not want used in a particular area, and our installer will gladly use them in another area, or discard them if not needed at all.

Finally, if you are fully comfortable with the random nature of natural stone you may want to leave the entire arrangement up to the installer.  Please note, Peel Tile does not rip out and re-install tiles based on shade/print/texture/location preferences.  These must be established prior to installation.

Choosing a Slab

We encourage our customers to visit the quarry in order to see the stone which will be used for their custom countertops.  Doing this ensures there are no surprises upon delivery.  If an appointment is not made, you must understand, you will be asked to sign a waiver indicating that you will accept whatever slab is made for you. Custom countertops are non-returnable.

Sealing

All natural stone products are porous, and therefore, must be sealed after installation in order that they resist staining, water damage and mildew.  We recommend the HG series of products, namely the “Marble Impregnator” for floors, and the “Top Protector” for countertops.  For floors, the sealer is to be applied using a cloth, paint roller, or sponge, on the entire surface, including the grout.  Sealer is to be reapplied until the tile stops absorbing it.  For countertops, the top protector is to be applied using the included rag, and is to be applied yearly to properly resist food stains.  Please note, some high gloss countertops will require a sealer, whereas others will produce a hazy finish when treated.  Please ask your salesperson to determine the care required for your particular slab.  Polished tiles may take the sealer a little different from tile to tile or even half a tile to half a tile. This is the uniqueness of Mother Nature, and so everyone should be prepared to accept whatever Mother Nature provides.

In summary, understanding natural stone is paramount in preventing disappointment with your decision. Peel Tile has illustrated to you the potential complexities which may arise. Please ask questions regarding the information provided.
